I met Sam and Lorian while photographing a couple of their friends getting hitched a few years ago. It was a lovely “do it yourself” wedding in the middle of a field in Devon. It was one of the most chilled out weddings I’d ever been to. So when Sam and Lorian contacted me describing a similar style, I jumped at the chance to photograph it.
I arrived the day before to pitch a tent and I was presented with the most beautiful field of stripy tents, yurts and a bar made from old pallets. There was a buzz of busy bees helping as their friends and family all pitched in to set things up. The venue is called Hunger Hills near Exeter in Devon. It’s owned by a friend of theirs and they used to spend time up there as teenagers. Hunger Hill yurts is usually used as a yoga retreat or just holiday accommodation. I couldn’t believe it when they said they’d only ever had one wedding there before, it’s a beautiful venue.
I met Sam and the bridesmaids on the morning of the wedding at The Lamb Inn in a little village called Sanford. They were having their hair done by another Lucy, who I then met a week later at another wedding down in Devon. The sun was streaming in through the window with all the lovely dresses hanging on the curtain rail. The bride had given the bridesmaids a colour palette but allowed them all to pick their own dress. They all looked lovely.
The wedding itself was at Exeter Town hall, which provided nice pockets of light streaming through its high windows. The groom had some trouble getting through his bits through the emotion that seemed to catch him off guard. Everyone then headed to a big double decker bus to head back to the lovely field of yurts. The rest of the day was filled with hula hoops and juggling, an awesome live band and sparklers to see the cake cutting. Thankfully the weather played ball and we got a perfect British summers day.
It was definitely a memorable one! I hope you enjoy looking through their lovely day. If you’d like to check out more Lucy Judson wedding photography click here.

“Lucy’s creative talent & enthusiasm was so obvious when we met her for the first time; we felt completely confident about her photographing our wedding. On the day, our guests commented on how lovely Lucy was as she subtly bounced around capturing so many clever shots. Our day was very colourful and the way she captured this was beyond my expectations…just perfect. She worked her socks off for us, and we couldn’t be more grateful.” VIEW GALLERY
