Ardington House Wedding Photographer

Ardington House is a stunning setting for a wedding and I have loved being the photographer there for some lovely days. It’s a gorgeous Georgian stately home nestled in the heart of south Oxfordshire, at the foot of the North Wessex Downs, an area of outstanding natural beauty. Built in 1720 it’s just thirty minutes from Oxford and just over an hour from London. Ardington house is beautifully positioned in some of the prettiest private parkland I’ve ever spent time in or photographed. Close to the house is a garden surrounded by beautiful borders which is perfect for a drinks reception and both the weddings I’ve shot there have been blessed with beautiful weather, which allowed them to hang out outside for most of the day. Listening to bands over canapés, playing games and having speeches on the stunning steps up to the house. Everyone was gifted a sun-kissed halo which looked so lovely in the photographs.

What Ardington House has to offer as a wedding venue

Ardington House offers exclusive use for weddings. There are stunning rooms for getting ready in the morning and the whole house can be rented like an Airbnb so your friends and family and wedding party can stay the night or the whole weekend. Ardington house is a mixture of classical grandeur and luxurious modern comfort and the light throughout is stunning, which is great for us photographers. I love weddings that take place all in one place and it’s so nice that this venue can be used in so many different ways and the options for photographs are so wide ranging. It has lovely sloping grounds down to a beautiful river, and the marquee for the meal is tucked away so it doesn’t overwhelm the scenery. It has a swimming pool and tennis courts, lawn games and even the option to fly fish. There are swans swimming in the river, which is lined with weeping willows. Kelly and Scott got married under a little temple over the bridge on a little island, with Ardington  house and grounds as their backdrop.

And if you’re after a more traditional wedding Liam and Caitlin got married at the local church, Holy Trinity, which is only a two minute walk away from Ardington. And with the local pub nestled in between the two, for a potential pre-wedding tipple, it really does have everything you need in one location. There are also options to get married in the riverside marquee or even in Ardington house itself in the Imperial Hall, with its large Georgian windows and glass chandeliers. And the groups themselves have everything you could wish for for beautiful photographs of the two of you, your groups and just gorgeous natural photographs of all the real moments..

Photographing Intimate weddings at Ardington

Although Ardington House seems like a grand venue for a big wedding it was chosen by Kelly and Scott as a place in between Canada and Australia, where their families are from. And instead of having a big party they decided to invite their closest friends and family to spend four days living the stately home life. I popped along one of the days where they had a little wedding celebration, with a ceremony, games, photos and I left them tucking into a delicious wedding breakfast in the Imperial Hall.. Their families live on opposite sides of the world and some of them hadn’t met before. This was a chance for them all to get to know each other and play silly games and eat tasty food. Share some quality time and make some memories together. It was also the first time they were meeting Kelly’s sister’s new baby!

Natural unposed wedding photographs from Ardington House

For Caitlin and Liam’s weddings I was the second shooter for a mate of mine Ollie Hinds. I love second shooting weddings because it takes all the pressure off getting the big moments and allows you to concentrate on the more overlooked but, I’d argue, more sincere and meaningful moments during a wedding. I hung out with the boys in the morning and met up with the rest of the bridal party at Holy Trinity church, which sits just a couple of minutes walk from Ardington House, near Wantage. The day was so lovely and relaxed, hanging out in the sunshine and having drinks. Wandering down to the river for photos and strolling over to the marqueen for the wedding breakfast and dancing. I even bumped into a couple who realised they’d booked me for a wedding later in the summer, so I got to pre-emptively meet the lovely Immy and Danny. The couple danced into the night and got to get my flash guns out to capture all the joyous moves.
