During a couple of our daily walks we’ve passed multiple empty pub gardens on gorgeous sunny evenings, and the sight is just so wrong! The weather has been perfect wedding and perfect pub garden material and it’s been getting me pretty down. Anyway, I’ve always loved a pub wedding so I thought I’d go back and have a look at some of my favourite London pubs that also double as awesome wedding venues. I can’t wait until I can be a wedding photographer at some of these awesome venues again.
I wasn’t sure whether or not doing a post about how much I love a pub wedding would be rubbing in the fact that we can’t go there… Or maybe it would be nice to remind us of some of the things we have to look forward too, once this mad time is over. Mmmm, a nice cold pint under a weeping willow with some nice dappled sunshine, sitting closer than 2 meters away from all our friends. I’m being way too wistful now.. Apologies, ignore my waffling and take a look at some of my favourite London pubs.
There’s something so perfect about filling a pub with all your friends and family and enjoying a few pints and some tasty food together. Who says a wedding needs to be in a big fancy hotel or rustic barn!? Weddings come in so many shapes and sizes, and this is one of my favourite shapes! Erik and Laura had an awesome reception at the Fox And Grapes in Wimbledon, with a pub quiz and engraved tumblers! There was lots of cheers-ing and all the lovely atmosphere that is unique to a good pub.
Katie and Maddox filled The Prince Albert in Camden with gorgeous flowers, all the love and laugher, and they sung and danced into the night. Taking over the whole pub so that wherever they looked they had friends standing at the bar getting a pint, sitting in the garden with a guitar. Family at every table having a good catch up. The speeches made everyone cry, in the gorgeous dining room upstairs and the bar was filled with paper lanterns that made an awesome backdrop for the evenings entertainment. Click on their names above if you want to see more of their lovely day.
I’ve photographed The Rosendale pub several times now since my best mate Hannah got hitched there many years ago… I love revisiting venues and seeing how they can be transformed by different couples visions. The Rosendale is a gorgeous building, with lovely rooms upstairs which can be transformed from ceremonies to dining rooms to dance-floors seamlessly. Guests can hang out in the little garden and play some table tennis, or order a few pints at the bar. The pub itself makes a lovely backdrop for groups and portraits and the staff are super friendly. To check out some of the different days I’ve spent there you can click on the names above.
Every generation likes a pub! From kids chasing each other around tables and digging into fish and chips. To grandparents enjoying a gin and tonic and a natter with their offspring. The Phene in Chelsea is on many floors and spills out into a lovely pub garden. Sarah and Ali filled it to capacity, with kids entertainment upstairs, a room at the top for some avid world cup football watching and guests spilling into the garden. It made getting the group photographs together fairly tricky, but it was lovely to wander around the building and see how every corner of the pub was being enjoyed. Even onto the balcony filled with an overflow of pub furniture.
I’ve photographed a couple of lovely days in this gorgeous pub in Richmond. They’ve recently had the garden re-done and it’s now a really lovely space for mingling, drinking and digging into the tasty food that’s always on offer there. The inside is great too and provides a nice cozy feel to the evenings fun. The music and dancing fill the space and it’s great fun to photograph.
The Londesborough feels like a proper London pub, nestled into the backstreets of Stoke Newington. Music memorabilia cover the walls collected by the music mad owner. This love of music was definitely shared by the Bella and Alex, who employed an old-school DJ and his collection of Vinyl for the evenings dancing. I love being paid to spend my days in pubs!
Paul and Terri had a lovely meal at Harrild and Sons in the Farringdon to celebrate their start to married life. The pub has gorgeous light with sunshine streaming through the windows and skylights. Speeches were held in the atmospheric basement with bubbles flowing while their ska band got set up upstairs. The music was amazing and they danced the night away.
Pub pubs pubs! This is the last one on my list today I promise, although I could keep going… The Peasant in Clerkenwell is where Rachel and John decided to celebrate combining their lives. Just in time for their little one to arrive a month later. Rachel looked gorgeous in her golden dress and the pub was decked out with beautiful flowers. I love the light in pubs, cozy corners and big windows, dark wooden bars and beautiful chandeliers. There’s a nostalgia about them, like creating a home away from home. I can’t wait until I can go back to the pub.

“Lucy’s creative talent & enthusiasm was so obvious when we met her for the first time; we felt completely confident about her photographing our wedding. On the day, our guests commented on how lovely Lucy was as she subtly bounced around capturing so many clever shots. Our day was very colourful and the way she captured this was beyond my expectations…just perfect. She worked her socks off for us, and we couldn’t be more grateful.” VIEW GALLERY
